FAMILY FRIENDLY CARNIVAL
The first Hull International Carnival (HIC) hit the road in 2017-the UK City of Culture, subsequently in 2018 and 2019 within the Freedom Festival. Following successful postCOVID-19 events in 2022 and 2023, HIC 2024 aims to deepen community engagement, particularly among local minority and disadvantaged groups, while also attracting the native local English, guest performers from regional, National and Carnivals across Europe.
The Comprehensive Programme Includes
The Intercultural Festival
Intercultural Festival is a two weeks Cultural activity preceding the Carnival Parade that aims at engaging all sections of the community interested in Carnival and creativity, with a focus on sharing cultural traditions. we have witnessed the Ethnic Minority Cultural Groups in making presentations, History, traditional Folklore, Food, Music, Dance and display of traditional Costumes.
Family Arts
We would like to deepen engagement of these diverse communities. These Intercultural Festivities, have had a positive impact on the lives and wellbeing of our community and are evolving into a new family arts project, a case study for hundreds of lucky families who will enjoy the power of Art, Culture, Music, Dance, Children play and physical activity in the Community.
A Neighbourhood Approach
Through Arts Council intervention, we are holding Arts workshops and surgeries in the Native British Neighbourhoods of Bransholme (Alf Marshal Centre), Orchard Park (Unity in Community) and Marfleet @ Marfleet Community Centre Post Code areas.
